Meditation Mandalas

For many mandalas are mandalas are viewed as simply beautiful and intricit designs.
However, mandalas hold a much more spiritual significance.  Traditionally they are used as an aid during meditation and the various colors hold different spiritual representations.   I suffer from anxiety and depression, which at times can be crippling.  Meditation is a tool that I use to help ease these disorders.; for me making mandalas is part of my meditation.

Meditate

"Meditate" is a digitally designed screen print that uses both light exposure and stencil processes.  Though it is only two colors, a great deal of consideration was put into what each of them meant.  Black is traditionally known to represent deep thinking and individuality; blue is representative of emotional healing and green is for physical healing. The ink blot stencil's color was a mix of these two colors.

Vegetable Mandala

This piece is particularly special to me.  It was inspired by traditional Tapa Clothes from the Pacific Island and the symbols are representative of my family.  My mom and I are avid gardeners and
are passionate about growing and preserving our own food. This is one of the first mandalas I ever created and it introduced me to many new worlds.  This piece was featured in the 2018 Council
of Public Arts Colleges' annual conference, and received best in the printmaking category in the 2018 Gmeiner Art & Cultural Centers' annual regional juried exhibition.
